Final piece photographs

The photographs that i have decided to use for my final piece are these 3:

i have decided to display my photographs a a little photo essay first being the light switch because first when you enter the bathroom you turn on the light, then secondly the sink drain with the water running as after you turn on the light you turn on the tap. Lastly the final photo will be the sink plug as you put in the plug after you use the water.

Rosangela Borgese

Rosangela Borgese is a photographer from London She has taken some photograph of the everyday which are related to the photographs that i am experimenting with.In her photographs she experiments in different ways of taking photographs.
i like this photograph because to me it seems obvious as to what it is but at the same time it doesn't.
i like this photograph because of the blur of colours in the backgroung and the fact that nothing in this photograph is completley in focus. Also because you cannot really tell what the object is.
i like this photograph and i think this one really relates to my work as she is using dept of field, as the water droplets are so in focus and the background is out of focus as this is an extreme closeup, also this relates to my work as in one of my previous photographs i was trying to capture movement of the tap running water and this is an action shot too.

changing the colour

i used one of the black and white photographs that i took for experimenting with my final piece and used photoshop for changing the colour of the photograph and seeing how it affected the original photograph.
The colours i used for this photograph were very light, i didn't use too much colour and in doing that it kept in most of the detail in the photograph, as with most of my other experimentation.

However in the photograph i used alot of colour and in this photograph quite alot of the detail is lost because of all of the colour that is used.

after i experimented with changing and adding colour to my photographs i have decided that i prefer black and white photographs i feel that adding colour to them takes away quite a bit of the original detail in my photographs.

More experimentation

i experimented more with Edward Weston's style and then i also experimented in photoshop with some of my original edward weston inspired photographs.
In this photograph i used the burn tool in photoshop to make the shadows look some what darker. and i also changed the brightness and exposure of the photograph to make the change from the left side being so dark and gradually getting lighter so noticeable.
This photograph i took is of a different light switch i desaturated the photograph and again changed the brightness and exposure to make the shadows of the photograph much darker.
This photograph i experimented with in photoshop and i used the burn tool to create more shadow around the light switch.

This photograph is of  the sink drain i tried to get a action shot by having the water running and taking the photograph just before it hit the bottom of the sink. i desaturated the photograph and made changed the brightness and exposure a little to create more shadows within the photograph. I took this photograph using a digital camera and i changed the settings on my camera and used a close up setting to get more depth of field in my photographs as i am doing close ups , so basically i was changing the shutter speed faster to capture the action in the photograph which is how i can take the photograph using an SLR camera, just by changing th shutter  speed and making it faster.

Experiment in Edward Weston's style

These are photographs that i have taken of closeups of everyday items around my home, i experimented in the style of Edward Weston, i changed the colour of my photographs to black and white like the styles of Edward Weston and Robert Frank.

I started by photographing my light switch, i tried to change the angles at which i took the picture, in this photograph i decided to include the whole light switch in the picture with the camera facing the light switch straight on. i like this photograph because you can really see the detail on the wall and it contrasts with how the light switch looks smooth. The white in this picture also looks really prominent compared to the dark wall.

In the photograph i tried to use cropping in at an different angle, i decided to only use about one quarter of the actual light switch in my photograph to make it look more interesting.

I took this photograph of a sink plug i like the contrast in the photograph of the sink plug and the detail you can see on the compared to the sink in the background in which the texture looks really smooth. Also i like the colour contrast in the picture, that the plug is almost jet black and how the sink in the background is so bright. i like how in this photograph there is the rule of three and how the sink plug is on the left side of the photograph.

This photograph i took of my light switch again, like my first picture i wanted to include all of the object in my photograph, but unlike the first picture i didn't take this one head on, i decided to take the photograph at an angle at the side of the light switch. I like the way that the colour on the left side of the photograph s so dark and then as it gets to the right it gradually gets lighter.

This photograph is of a door handle i have taken and i have taken it at an angle when i have cut off almost half of the handle and most of the image is of the door ,but the attention goes towards the door handle. i took this photograph straight towards the handle.
This is another photograph of a door handle i took this photograph at an angle where i have cut off the bottom of it and also at an angle where the biggest part and the attention of the photograph is the actual handle itself.

Inspiration

The inspiration that i had for my final piece was the artist  Edward Weston as in my final piece i am planning to do close up photographs of everyday things that i find around the home. Also i have taken Robert frank as inspiration as well as his photography is all done in black and white, and for my final piece i will be documenting my photographs in black and white.

this is a photography by Robert frank and he photographs all of his photos n black and white and his photographs have a lot of tone and depth to them.

Next Intentions

For my next photographs i will experiment with Edward Weston's style of photography and take photographs of everyday items you see / find around the home, or on the streets. My photographs will be in black and white as that is the style of Edward Weston.

Edward Weston

Edward Henry Weston born the 24th of March 1886 and died January 1st 1958 was a 20th century American photographer. Edward Weston was born in Chicago and then moved to California when he was 21. Initially his work was typical of the soft focus pictorialism that was popular at the time. Within a few years, he abandoned that style and went on to be one of the foremost champions of highly detailed photogenic images.

Over the course of his career, Weston photographed an increasingly expansive set of subjects that included landscapes, still lifes, nudes, portraits, genre scenes and even whimsical parodies.

Photo Essay Photographs.

These are photographs i have taken for my photo essay. They are images that the intent of are to tell a story.

These photographs that i have taken are to represent my weekend morning, things that i generally do every, or most weekends.

The first photograph that i have taken is an
establishing shot. I took this photo of my street to set the scene and to start off my photographs.

This is the second shot, i took it at a high angle and it is a close up shot of my mobile phone showing the time. i took this shot because the first thing i do when i wake up is look at my phone to see what the time is.

The third photograph is a close up of a cup of tea, i took this photo to represent having breakfast as after i get up i eat breakfast. i took this photo at a slightly high angle so that in the photograph you could see the tea inside the cup.

The fourth photograph i took is a close up of my toothbrush, i took this level to my toothbrush  so that you can clearly see all of it, i used flash so that the background would be darker and all of the attention would be focused on the toothbrush.

This is the last photograph in my photo essay
It is a photograph of me leaving the house with the door and wall in frame, and the door slightly closing.

Photo Essay

My definition of a photo essay would be a series of photographs of which the intent is to tell a story.

Types of shots:

Close ups:

The close up, or portrait shot is when the subject of the picture is in focus and the background is out of focus, close ups specifically on people focus on faces and heads and only go down to the neck.

Detail shot:

a detail shot is a closer, tighter image of details that are relevant to the story. In this case the details are of the nails of this person.

High angle shot:

This shot is taken from above the subject of focus, this can have an effect of making the viewer of the picture seem more powerful.

Medium shot:

a medium shot is an image that get's closer to the action, and generally tell what the story is about. in medium shots the subject is generally shot from the waist up

Low angle shot:

a low angle shot is taken from below the subject of the photograph, this has an impact of making the subject more powerful.

Text in photographs

Steps of how i added text to one of my photographs.

1. i chose the picture that i wanted to add text to and opened in up in photoshop, i also chose to make the photograph black and white.

2. Then i chose the text icon which is the capital T from the list of icons displayed on the left hand side of the screen.

After that i clicked on the layer of my text

And then i chose the colour and size and font style of my text, in this case i chose to make the text red and the size 72 and the font style caligraphy.

Then i clicked on the layer of my text and clicked on the effects button (fx) to then change the style of my writing.

i then had to rasterise my text to that i could change how my image looked/.

afterward i stretched my text to make it bigger and easier to read then the i changed the perspective and tilted to text to make it look more interesting.

Lastly i clicked on the effects button again and edited my text by making it more 3 dimensional.
